LocalDeck - Quick Questions Megathread
Adopted the deck in HA.
I’ve popped a configuration from the configurator (minus the wifi + api blocks) into ESPHome in HA. On install, I get this error:
The number of key codes must equal the number of buttons
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for bearing with me…
First off, we’ve just posted an update:
We’re now Shipping!
On the 4th of July, we shipped our first units to customers.
What a journey it’s been

Additionally, we’ve released configurator v0.3.
The short response to the issues that some of you have faced with broken configuration, I’m sorry.
When ESPHome 2024.6 was released with a breaking change, I rushed to get a fix out, and didn’t properly test things.
This caused us to send out code that was not yet battle-tested, so to speak, and caused a domino effect.
I’ve written a post-incident report, with instructions on how to get up and running after the 0.2 related issues.
You can read that here - LocalBytes Blog / Postes / LocalDeck Recovery
I was not able to keep up with commication, fixing software, testing, and building new deck’s and had to step away from the forum to focus on getting everything back on track.
Massive thankyou to @RebeccaH, our Community Manager, for taking this on for me!
Any comments, questions, or queries, please do let me know
It looks like we’re out of the woods for now, so, I’ll keep an eye on this thread and then catch up on the rest of the posts over the coming week!
I’ve set this up and tried to bind to HA scripts and automation, and nothing seems to happen. Does this only work when bound to real entities like a light per button?
Scripts should work!
Automations may also work, but not quite how you’d expect (they’ll probably toggle the automation, as opposed to running it’s actions)
Have you allowed service calls in HomeAssistant?

Is there a way to factory reset the LocalDeck? I just updated my LocalDeck for the first time (using the latest configurator) and it is no longer reachable. It lights up when I plug it in though.
AAllport yep as you said scripts work but the automations , run they do the on then off actions so the automation is not seen to be running
Any suggestions how to trigger automations and keep the state of them in HA so the button lights up as appropriate as i have things like turn on my lounge lights , tv and soundbar that I run as an automation
williamg97 I did the same thing, eventually I plugged it into my laptop directly via usb-c and used the ESP home wizard (https://web.esphome.io/?dashboard_wizard) to reset it and then re-adopt in Home Assistant
finalbilylbong - similar. Pressing 13 caused 15 to flash green, but only four or five times and then it stopped. Nothing seen with any of the other buttons.
We do have a fix!
In short, there’s enough current through the matrix to induce a little bit of fluctuation in the LED data line.
Next board rev, we’ll be adding even more spacing, but there’s also a software fix.

ETA: Next Week!
Hi so my TV is controlled via a Harmony Hub as there is no other way to control SKY Stream pucs at the moment, so my /on/off state would be the Harmony state of off or the Activity name for on. Then I have a few scenes for TV mode on for lights with more lights on and a movie mode with fewer lights on and set to blue. I suppose what I could do is set a custom HA entity with a bool for when the scene is active or turned off and get the Local Deck button state to mirror that
It’s worth noting you don’t have to use the toggle entity for the entity binding.
Eg, you could have the light watch the state of the TV and then have an automation that listens for a press event, and then triggers the scene, etc
Ultimately, there’s only so much we can do for such a small team - we’re sorry to disappoint.
I can see that the warehouse marked the unit as received on the 16th; we then issued the replacement order and emailed you on the 17th.
The final UK shipment is leaving today and hitting the warehouse tomorrow. It should be sent out the same day (clearing all the outstanding non-EU shipments).
I appreciate that we could have done better by providing better timelines for resolving this, and we’ll be sure to take that forward in the future!
I ordered mine about the same time and am still waiting. I’m not really in a rush, but would you be able to provide a rough timescale for delivery? 1 week? 1 month.
As I said, I’m not in a rush and happy to support the product.
Thanks
