Historical Power Consumption Capture

Hi,

I just received my first LocalBytes Smart Plug (UK) and am starting to experiment with collecting its data. Reason: I want to monitor my “always connected” appliances to see if I can remove any inefficiencies and save a bit of cash on my power bill.

Seeking to leverage some experience - I’m intending to capture “yesterdays kWh” number into a time series database and then build a simple web app (both of Raspberry Pis) to show the data.

Anyone know how I can query the Smart Plug (I.e any API documentation I can use?)

Sorry if this is a Bobby basic question (or worse, I’ve missed this in the documentation!)

Why not just use Home assistant to capture and report that?

If not have a look at the ESPHome documentation assuming you have a ESPHome one not a Tasmota one.

Hi @DesOwl,

As jane_t mentioned, HomeAsisstant is excellent at capturing said data and can even export to a TSDB for you.

That said, if you want to build a more bespoke solution, you can access raw data!

Ah, sorry, see what you mean. I see Home Assistant captures the information already. I’ll add a few more plugs and see how the data is captured.
