Configuration without HASSIO or Supervised HASS

Hello,
I am one of those awkward folks that doesn’t run Home Assistant OS, and so can’t add the Configurator in the way described using the Supervisor.
Has anyone successfully configured the configurator using another method?
I have joined the Deck to my WiFi and added it to the basic ESPHome integration, which allows me to see the buttons, LED’s etc.

👋 Hey there, I’m also one of those awkward people using HA inside a docker container.

I’ve actually managed to get the configurator running inside a docker container, and connecting up to HA and an ESPHome container that gives me everything* the HAOS addon users have too!

*This way is actually better, we have 3 dashboards instead of 1 like them! Ha! (It’s not perfect, but that’s the limitation of not using HAOS I think)

I’ve written up my setup and notes here on the github repo, in the hope it inspires others to do the same/improvements to be made to the experience for us awkward people!

I’ve been chatting to LocalBytes (Adam I think?) on twitter about this and they’ve been receptive to wanting to improve this experience in future, so I think we’re on the right track.

I was planning to pair the Deck to an ESPHome Container running on my Docker Host. Using the web tool, I was going to then copy the generated config across to ESPHome to upload to the Deck. I will now also give running a Configurator Container a go as well. Thanks for sharing!
