Bulb completely bricked?

I just received a bulb with the B22 fitting. Plugged it in, connected to the AP. Entered my WiFi credentials and it correctly showed up on the network.

I wanted to try out esphome so I did the following:

Checked the Tasmota version for the bulb, which was 11.1.0
I went to the OTA page for 11.1.0 and grabbed the link for tasmota-minimal.bin.gz
Clicked upload. It said device will restart, and then…

Nothing. The bulb didn’t come back at all. It’s not on the WiFi, it’s not broadcasting the default AP, it doesn’t even turn the light on. I tried the power cycle reset (quickly turn on/off 6 times, leave it on on the 7th) which didn’t help.

Is there a way I can flash it via serial? Or can I return it for a replacement?

Thanks for your patience whilst we got to your post.

Unfortunately, it looks like you may have bricked the device I’m sorry to say!

For future, if you’re updating Tasmota to Tasmota, you just leave the url as the tasmota.bin(.gz) If you’re wanting to flash ESPHome, you upload the ESPHome binary.

RebeccaH thanks Rebecca. I tried to see if there is a way to remove the diffuser non-destructively, but it doesn’t seem possible. Oh well, lesson learned 🙂
