Hi, I’ve noticed that my local bytes plugs are occasionally producing some kind of noise that sounds a lot like electrical arcing. This isn’t related to relay toggling as this particular plug is only used for power metering - it’s never toggled. Occasionally - every few days - I hear noise coming from my plug that sounds similar to this for a few seconds, but then it goes away again.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to capture the sound while it’s happening, but I’ve heard that noise before on quite a few random, super cheap smart plugs. I have 3 of these LocalBytes plugs and they all occasionally produce this kind of noise, so it’s not a one-off failure.
The back of the plug reads “Local Bytes PM EU 2022-06 (Tas v11.1.0)” which I’m assuming identifies the batch number.
Is this a known issue and is it dangerous?
