Smart Plug and Tasmota

Newbie here, my apologies if this has already been covered.

I’ve just installed Home Assistant on a Pi3B, and have installed Mosquitto. So far, so good. I’ve been able to see my Smart Switch, and have configured it as outlined in the Youtube video. That works (I can turn a light on and off with it). The problem comes when I try to configure Tasmoto. It appears to install OK, but whereas the video seems to suggest that Tasmoto should pick up on the existence of the Smart Switch, it doesn’t, so it doesn’t appear on my dashboard. I can only access it via a separate browser tab, which uses the Smart Switches IP address.

Any suggestions on where I should be looking ?

First off, good job for getting Home Assistant and Mosquitto sorted. That is often where people stumble.

Just to confirm, if you visit the IP address of your smart plug running tasmota, you are able to toggle the plug on and off? If that is the case, that means that tasmota is set up properly.

It sounds like you probably need to set the details for Mosquitto in the tasmota web interface. You can find instructions for doign so here: https://blog.mylocalbytes.com/kb/2022-10-01/getting-started-with-tasmota#connecting-the-devices

Thanks for the reply, and apologies for not replying sooner, I wasn’t getting notifications.

Yes I can access the smart plug directly via my browser using its IP, and it turns on/off and reports power usage as expected.

Returning to Home Assistant, that still wasn’t showing the Smart Plug (just the one so far) on the home page /dashboard, but after I fiddled with something ( I can’t remember what), it has appeared. Huzzah !.

~~What would be good is to be able to edit what appears, so that by default, I don’t get the power usage showing, just the switch, and hence its on/off status.~~ Now sorted, I dug into the Home Assistant documentation.
